This looks like yet another model with the same internals. If it's like the white one they sold a year ago, which also had the same number and type of battery slots, it's reasonable. It will happily charge the batteries that my Maha C9000 rejects as 'high' impedance, and the batteries that my Nitecore D4 gets confused by (continually re-starting the battery identification routine). The display on last year's charger doesn't show battery capacity, only the 'percent full' estimate in 10% steps. From the picture above, this charger looks to have the same display. The LED colour shows the charging status, steady green when charge complete.I found the previous charger would occasionally say 'charge complete' too early, so now I always take the batteries out and re-insert them again for a second charge cycle. If they were fully charged, the charger says 'charge complete' again within a few minutes, so the charger must have dV/dT detection. Bought the charger on the weekend and charged my Eneloops.Besides having all the nice bells and whistles (discharge, individual charging slots, allows all types of common batteries, no over charging, smart detection etc), my biggest problem is that it charges standard AA at 1000mAh.After an hour of charging I touched the batteries and they were VERY HOT.
When fully charged, should they be removed from the charger or can. BTW, reviews on the Aldi 'Activ Energy' are generally quite good. The manual for the Bauhn MD16704 is also explicit about end-of-charge procedure. EnerSys has a nationwide service organization to assist with your new battery purchase. Please call your nearest EnerSys sales/service representative for more information, or, call the. Corporate office number listed on the back of this manual and ask for EnerSys Service.
Existing eneloop charger, charges at 300mAh.Reading other forums, this will compromise the life of the battery. I would have been happy at 500-600mAh but 1000mAH probably will kill the battery within a year (if you use it often). On this fact alone, I'll be returning the charger:-(. Yep, was the 21st May 2016The Low Shelf Discharge was the most disappointing, barely a day goes by and they have lost so much charge they are unusable. Amazing was they where 75% charged out of the pack.IMO They get too hot while charging, the charge rate is too high.Even when used fresh out of the charger they won't last long in a high draw device like my camera. I get maybe a dozen shots before the memory card stuffs up.Hopefully the Japanese eneloops pro with the $100 nitecode charger will do a better job, but that's $140 which is 7 sets of ultimate's which then brings into play a 10A/H multi-voltage power bank for about the same price and much more versatile.
- Brand: Activ Energy
- Model: Universal NiCd/NiMH Battery Charger (IN8801SAA)
- RRP: $19.99 (not currently available – weekly special from Aldi starting 17 December 2016)
My needs
I required a NiMH battery charger that is intelligent functionally and simple to use for my wife and children, capable of charging 4 or more AA/AAA batteries independently and automatically. It must prevent overcharging, and report battery status of individual batteries if possible.

What I like

The Activ Energy Universal NiCd/NiMH Battery Charger meets all these requirements:
- Each battery is charged individually – other chargers require two batteries to be charged simultaneously, which often means finding another battery with similar capacity rating and remaining voltage
- Percentage display – charge is displayed as a percentage (rounded to units of 10%) giving an idea of how flat the battery is to begin with and how long the charge will take
- Correct charging rate – close to recommended rate of around 0.5C (see http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/charging_nickel_metal_hydride)
- Flexible – this charger can simultaneously charge:
- Six AA and/or AAA batteries
- Four C and/or D batteries
- Two 9V batteries
- USB – allows mobile phone or iPad to be charged simultaneously
Extra considerations
- No wall mounting – lack of wall mounting screw slots means this charger must live on a bench or table, unless you create your own method of attaching to a wall
- Misreported battery issues – reported one NiMH battery as having an error, however when left in the charger long enough was able to charge successfully (perhaps it trickle charged to slowly restore the battery charge)
